Rice Blast disease symptoms

  • Leaf blast: Spindle or eye shaped spots, with grey centre and dark brown margin.
  • Nodal blast: Necrotic black lesions at nodes resulting in weakening of nodal region.
  • Neck blast: Dark brown to black colored spots appear at the neck region of the panicle. The earhead breaks at the neck region.
  • Grain infection: Dark brown spots appear on grains.

Mycelium Dark brown to olivaceous green and septate.
Asexual Conidia are produced in clusters on long septate, olivaceous conidiophores.
Conidia : Pale green, three celled, pyriform.

  • Avoid excess N - fertilizer application
  • Thiram or captan or carboxin or carbendazim at 2 g/kg of seeds.
  • Carbendazim or Tricyclozole at 2 g/lit of water for 1 kg of seed.
  • Stagnate water to a depth of 2.5cm over an area of 25m2 in the main field. Sprinkle 2.5 kg of the talc based formulation of Bacillus subtilis and mix with stagnated water. The seedlingspulled out from the nursery are to be soaked for 30 min. in the stagnated water and then transplanted.
